Nexia recently acquired advanced adaptive thermostat technology that reduces HVAC run times through cloud-based artificial intelligence for enhanced energy efficiency and peace of mind—saving consumers as much as 20% of their annual energy use.
“The Energy Savings algorithm learns homeowners’ comfort preferences over time and adapts the thermostat settings accordingly,” said George Land, Nexia general manager. “By incorporating this technology into Nexia Smart Home Automation, it can help homeowners manage their heating and cooling schedules more effectively and deliver EPA-validated energy savings of up to 10- 20%.”
The Energy Savings service automatically makes small temperature adjustments to reduce the time that the air conditioner and furnace operate, and learns and adapts to customer comfort preferences over time. The new energy-optimizing technology will also allow Trane and brand controls to qualify for the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® certification.
“Nexia has always been an enabler to help us grow our residential HVAC equipment business, and using this new technology to gain ENERGY STAR certification in our controls is another way for us to differentiate the consumer experience,” Land said. “Getting more of our connected controls into consumers’ homes will help us solidify that consumer relationship with our brands and ultimately grow share.” We also purchased another set of algorithms that detect HVAC system malfunction based on historical performance data and outdoor conditions. With these algorithms, Nexia will be able to alert homeowners to potential problems with their HVAC systems, or at least suggest they check for an open window.
“Incorporating this into our Nexia Diagnostics platform will also help HVAC dealers provide even better service to their connected
customers,” Land said.
